AGS Honors Yancy Weinrich, Georgie Gleim, and John A. Green

On July 28, the industry gathered at New York’s Plaza hotel for the annual American Gem Society Circle of Distinction Dinner to celebrate three of its finest.

Yancy Weinrich, Georgie Gleim, and John A. Green were honored this year for their contributions to the jewelry industry, and all three accepted their awards with moving and gracious speeches that highlighted just how special this industry is.

Rainy Day Promotion Builds Excitement Around Bridal Buys

Maryland's Saxon's Diamond Centers refunded two couples in two weeks

The funny thing about running a weather-based retail promotion is that it can cost you nothing or drain your coffers dry—depending on the skies. 

It’s a risk worth taking, says Shari DiMeo, the good-natured manager of Aberdeen, Md.–based Saxon’s Diamond Centers.

Saxon’s has been running a weather-based promotion, Let It Rain, for more than three years now but just recently made its first payouts (two in a two-week period) to customers.

Maryland’s Saxon’s Diamond Centers refunded two couples in two weeks.

Zalemark to Create M&M’s Jewelry Brand

Zalemark has signed an agreement with Mars Inc. to design, market, and distribute a line of jewelry based on the popular M&M’s candy. 

The company signed the agreement based on a successful preliminary test of the product in several unnamed major department stores.

Alrosa Repays Big Bank Loan

Russian diamond producer Alrosa repaid an $ 85 million bank loan to Austria’s VTB Bank, it announced recently.

The loan was repaid through cash from operations, it said.

The repayment allowed Alrosa to reduce loans from $ 3.3 billion to $ 3.2 billion.
