De Beers Introduces New Marketing Campaign to Spur Consumer Demand for Diamond Jewelry

De Beers has announced a holiday marketing campaign to increase consumer demand for diamond jewelry. 

The campaign, which is described in a release as a “call to action” advertising campaign, will target men purchasing diamond jewelry for their partners. It will feature “classic diamond products”—including diamond solitaire rings and necklaces, three-stone rings, stud earrings, and diamond bands—alongside attention-grabbing text to intended to “create a sense of urgency.”

Retail Jewelers Organization Introduces RJO Foundation

The Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO) has created a nonprofit, the RJO Foundation, to provide scholarships and educational opportunities in the jewelry industry.

The foundation debuted at the RJO Buying Show, which took place Aug. 1–3 in St Louis, with a campaign that raised nearly $ 17,000 in cash and scrap gold contributions.

Moissanite Sales Fall, Company Introduces New Colorless Stone

Moissanite manufacturer Charles & Colvard saw decreased sales but a narrower loss in its second quarter, as it announced the arrival of a new colorless gemstone.

The company’s sales in its second quarter (ended June 30) totaled $ 7.5 million, a 5 percent decrease from last year’s $ 7.8 million. It recorded a $ 4 million loss, an improvement over last year’s loss of $ 6.2 million.

GIA Introduces Digital-Only Grading Report for Small Diamonds

The Gemological Institute of America’s grading lab has introduced the Diamond Focus Report, a new digital-only report for smaller diamonds that costs around $ 20.

The reports will be issued for natural D-to-Z color round brilliants, weighing between 0.15 cts. and 0.29 cts. They will be issued with a GIA laser inscription with their report number. The results can be seen with GIA’s online Report Check; no printed report is issued.
